Biography

Ramdev Konijeti, MD, is a urologist practicing all aspects of general urology, with expertise in the surgical treatment of bladder cancer, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, and other cancers of the urinary tract and male reproductive system. Other areas of expertise include robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgical treatment of simple and complex urologic malignancies and diseases.

He has conducted research on prostate, kidney, and bladder cancer, and has a special interest in studying the role of nutrition and lifestyle on cancer development and progression. He has presented in local, national, and international forums and has published articles and book chapters on surgical techniques and diagnostic technology. Using his research experience and knowledge, he is able to appropriately utilize the latest technological advances in cancer diagnosis and management, and deliver them to patients in the clinic setting.

Dr. Konijeti chose a career in urology because it affords him the opportunity to not only provide life-saving treatments, but to preserve, maintain, and improve the quality of his patients’ lives. He cares deeply about educating and informing his patients, to ensure they play an active role in their health. His patient care philosophy is centered on clear and concise communication with his patient, his patient’s family, and his patient’s primary and referring doctors. He believes that health care is a “team sport” and that good health is achieved not only by awareness of the individual, but awareness of those involved in the individual’s health and well-being.

Before joining Scripps, he served as an instructor of surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Prior to that, he practiced urology at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston, Massachusetts.

Outside of the hospital and clinic, Dr. Konijeti enjoys being a husband and a father to his two children and their dog. Together, they take every opportunity to explore and experience the excitement that sunny San Diego and southern California have to offer. He spends time planning and coordinating life with his wife, who is also a physician at Scripps. His hobbies include learning new skills and facts, meeting new people, current events, physical activity of almost any kind, traveling and cooking.
