Biography

John (Jeff) Tyner, MD, is a cardiothoracic surgeon and division head of cardiothoracic/cardiovascular surgery at Scripps Green Hospital. His practice encompasses adult cardiac and thoracic surgery. Dr. Tyner’s interests include multi-arterial grafting for coronary artery bypass (CABG) patients, minimally invasive approaches to aortic and mitral valve surgery, transcatheter aortic/mitral valve replacement, and surgery for aortic aneurysms. His expertise in general thoracic surgery includes minimally invasive esohphagogastrectomy for esophageal cancer, video-assisted lung and mediastinal surgery, as well as left atrial appendage clip placement for patients with atrial fibrillation.

Dr. Tyner received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He served his internship and residency in general surgery at Parkland Hospital at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. He also completed a residency in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago and served as a clinical fellow in esophageal surgery at Queen Mary Hospital at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Tyner believes in an unhurried, full discussion regarding not just the operative procedure, but also the reasons for surgery and what to expect post-operatively. When not in the hospital, he enjoys swimming, running and spending time with his family.
